Strategy & Finding Edges — Key Questions Answered
Does line shopping really make a difference?
Yes - significantly. Consistently taking the best available price lowers the vig you pay on every bet, which over a season can be the difference between a losing and a winning record.
Is positive EV betting profitable?
Over a large sample, yes - betting prices that are consistently better than fair produces profit by the same math that makes a casino profitable. The catch is variance: it only shows up over hundreds or thousands of bets.
Is arbitrage betting legal?
Betting both sides of a market at different books isn't illegal for the bettor, but sportsbooks discourage it and will limit or close accounts that do it consistently. Always use books that are legal in your region.
What is a middle in betting?
Betting both sides of a spread or total at different numbers so that a specific range of results wins both bets. Outside that range you usually lose only the vig difference.
How much is a bonus bet worth?
Usually about 60-75% of its face value in real cash, because the stake isn't returned when you win. You maximize it on longer odds or by converting (hedging) it at another book.
